Welcome Teachers!
School Field Trips
to Reservoir Community Farm
About 200 Bridgeport students visit our educational farm each year for experiential learning field trips where they learn skills that they bring back to their schools.
GVI cultivates community well-being and self-sufficiency. We operate Bridgeport’s only outdoor educational urban farm (Reservoir Community Farm), lead youth through leadership development programming, and offer 10 free educational field trips to Bridgeport Public Schools grades 1st-8th.
Field Trips Information
for Guardians
Reservoir Community Farm looks forward to welcoming your students for a hands-on field trip covering seeding, transplanting, weed identification, composting, and pollinator habitat.
Please distribute the enclosed Permission Slip to each student's family. If a family does not want their student photographed or recorded during the visit, they should also complete and return the Photo Opt-Out Form. Both forms must reach Green Village Initiative before the day of the visit. Students without a submitted permission slip cannot participate.
-
We have a beehive and bees at the farm. If your student has an allergy to bees, please inform their teacher and provide an Epi-Pen for their visit. If an Epi-Pen is not available or teachers are not able to administer the medicine to your student, we ask that you make alternate plans.
-
We ask that your student wear heavy-soled, closed-toe shoes, sunscreen, and farm-appropriate clothing (like long pants) that can get dirty! Please pack them snacks, and a refillable water bottle to keep them energized as they learn about farming in Bridgeport.
-
Please note that your field trip organizers are requested to provide any allergy or special accommodation information to Green Village Initiative in advance of this trip.
-
Your student will not be permitted to participate in this field trip without the submission of the attached, filled out and signed, Permission Slip.
