If GVI is not closing, then what is going on?
Due to changes in the funding community (the folks who fulfill grants we rely on to operate) we have seen our funding greatly reduced and as a result are forced to pause all programs as of December 1, 2023. This reduction of funds is NOT due to lack of effort, the staff and board worked tirelessly to secure funding.
GVI’s Board of Directors is working hard during the organization’s current period of transition, where our programs are on pause but our commitment to food justice and urban farming and gardening in Bridgeport are as strong as ever.
Our board is talking to local partners about the possibilities of a merger or collaboration on our shared work and vision.
The board is also working to upgrade Reservoir Community Farm with funding from the Department of Agriculture, a CT government agency focused on developing, promoting, and regulating agriculture and related resources.
GVI’s board and Transition Team are working hard to advance exciting plans for the future and ensure that our land remains as a space where urban farmers, especially Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color (BIPOC) farmers can cultivate food and community in Bridgeport.
