Growing Food.
Cultivating Justice
Green Village Initiative is commited to grow food, knowledge, leadership and community, through urban gardening and farming, to create a more just food system in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
Nourishing the Roots
of Our Community
GVI is more than a garden. We are a living classroom, a shared table, and a force for change.
Through urban farming and hands-on education, we work to dismantle systems of oppression and create a more equitable and resilient food system for all.
Our Impact
-
Reservoir Community Farm
A vibrant urban farm where we grow fresh, healthy food and cultivate community. It serves as a hub for workshops, volunteer days, and community events, connecting neighbors to the land and each other.
-
Youth Leadership Program
We mentor and empower the next generation of food justice advocates. This program provides young people with hands-on skills in urban farming, leadership, and organizing, preparing them to lead change in their own communities.
-
Learning & Community
From school partnerships to garden-based workshops, our programs teach people of all ages about growing food, preparing healthy meals, and building a more equitable food system. We believe knowledge is the first step toward a more just future.
-
Reservoir Farmers Market
We are committed to making healthy organically grown, culturally appropriate food available to everyone, which is why we accept SNAP, WIC, SENIOR and Bridgeport Bucks—making it simple to use your benefits and support local farmers.
