3 AmeriCorps VISTA service member positions!
- The Youth Leadership Program VISTA Service Member will work to evaluate Green Village Initiative’s 2017 Summer Youth Leadership Program, create connections with local and regional youth agriculture programs, and continue to develop youth programming that addresses the deep food systems change that youth in Bridgeport can achieve. He or she will work alongside Bridgeport teens and program graduates to co-design and co-deploy the 2018 Youth Leadership Program. In addition to lifting our youths’ voices through summer programming, the Youth Leadership VISTA service member will work in conjunction with GVI's educational urban farm, community garden program, and affiliated school garden teams to create opportunities for anti-oppression, agricultural, and leadership development skill shares across our network of partner organizations, neighbors, and friends to forge a more resilient Bridgeport for all. - The Urban Farm Strategy VISTA Service Member will work with Green Village Initiative’s farm team, youth, neighbors, partners, and friends to continue to hone farm processes and systems—from data collection to volunteer organization—all while interacting and working on our educational urban farm in Bridgeport. This individual will work to create cross-sector partnerships both locally and regionally to help GVI understand how our farm can best serve our neighbors and be an educational hub for agricultural, skill-sharing, anti-oppression, and community-building knowledge in the Park City. Key responsibilities will include continued evaluation of farm and farm stand operations, working within the Bridgeport Farmers Market Collaborative, co-designing and co-deployingprojects on our urban farm site, and developing more meaningful metrics for our urban farm program. - The Capacity Building VISTA Service Member will strengthen Green Village Initiative’s overall community outreach, communications, and volunteer management operations for future sustainability and program scaling. This VISTA service member will work closely with GVI's Executive Director to create and deploy robust systems for long-term organizational sustainability. By working closely with team members within all 4 of GVI's programs—our urban farm, Youth Leadership Program, 23 school gardens, and 13 community gardens—he or she will ensure that our outreach practices and resources provided to the community are streamlined, easy to use, and efficient. The focus will be on setting up a robust volunteer management system, streamlining our workshop offerings to the public, ensuring that we are meeting community needs, and creating improved avenues and tools for community outreach and general communications.
