RIDGEFIELD

green village initiative

GVI has been supporting green initiatives in Ridgefield since early of 2010.  While perhaps best known for its charming main street shops and restaurants, Ridgefield remains true to its proud agrarian roots as the proud home of some of Connecticut’s finest agricultural landscape.

By harnessing the passion and talent within our community, GVI has been instrumental in helping Ridgefield become the first town in Connecticut with an edible garden in every school and develop a curriculum based activity guide to support these outdoor classrooms.  Other projects include introducing worm compost bins to schools, the development of film and lecture series (topics include Sustainable Food, Composting, Backyard Chickens and Waste Reduction), the development of an additional community garden and partnering with other organizations in our community such as Woodcock Nature Center and the The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum to identify and support common environmental education initiatives.
